The Creation of Adam is perhaps the most iconic fresco in the history of Western art, painted by Michelangelo as part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512. It depicts the biblical moment from the Book of Genesis in which God breathes life into Adam, the first man. The near-touching fingers of God and Adam have become a universal symbol of humanity, celebrated for the incredible anatomical detail, dynamic composition, and the divine spark of connection that defines the High Renaissance.
