Possibly one of the most recognisable in England, the railway viaduct in Knaresborough spans the River Nidd.

Travel and landscape photographer Mark Sunderland  is based in Yorkshire and obviously knows this area well. This scene is often photographed, but usually in the height of the summer.  Mark has captured the viaduct, river and valley later in the year, with the autumnal trees adding colour to the scene.

Building work on the viaduct began in 1846. Designed to carry the Leeds & Thirsk Railway, it was due to open in 1848. However, in March 1848 the nearly completed viaduct collapsed, it took a further three and a half years to rebuild it and was completed in 1851. The incomplete railway line, however, opened in 1848, according to the original schedule. This beautiful stone viaduct was designed by Thomas Grainger to blend in with the architecture and character of Knaresborough. It stands 78 feet high and its four spans stretch each measure 56 feet 9 inches across.

The River Nidd is 58.69 Miles (94.45 kilometres) long and flows from Nidd Head Spring just north of the summit of Great Whernside to Nun Monkton where it runs into the River Ouse.

The finished size of the 1000 piece puzzle measures 68 x 49cm (approximately)
